Born in Montrose in 1951, Tom studied drawing and painting at Edinburgh College of Art from 1971 – 1975 under Philipson, Peploe, Cumming and Michie. A career in teaching followed, ultimately working as Head of Art at James Gillespie’s High School in Edinburgh. During this time most of his paintings were commissioned pieces. Now Tom devotes himself entirely to painting. For over 25 years Tom had a solo exhibition every Spring at the Torrance Gallery in Edinburgh. He was also a regular exhibitor with the Red Rag Gallery, Clifton Gallery Bristol, Doubtfire and Morningside Galleries in Edinburgh, the Stenton Gallery, Greens & Blues Gallery, Gullane Gallery and Arteries Gallery. He was a professional and council member of Visual Arts Scotland.
